While away on my trip in Durango, Colorado with some of the best humans I know, we found a cute little shop called Urban Market. This shop had everything from air plants to cookware to stationary to children’s books within its quaint four walls.
It wasn’t until my second visit that I found two, uniquely designed composition notebooks. In that moment, I realized exactly what purpose they’d serve.
I want to write letters of advice, letters of memories and letters of love to my future children.
I’ve always told myself that whichever gender of child I don’t bring into this world I will adopt. So, if I have a baby girl, I’ll adopt a boy, and vice versa.
One of these notebooks will be dedicated to my future son, whoever he may be. Letters to him about my life, what I’ve learned and am currently learning, and, when he’s finally here, our time together.
The other notebook will be dedicated to my future daughter, whoever she may be. Letters to her about my life, what I’ve learned and am currently learning, and, when she’s finally here, our time together.
As I am 18 and going through so many changes of my own in this new season of “Adulting,” I want to give these journals to my future kids when they turn 18 themselves. I hope, in these pages, they’ll find whatever they’re needing in their own obstacles and trials, and when they can’t find what they’re looking for, that they’ll turn to me knowing I was once in their shoes.
While people may look at me and think I am just 18 and young, these are the things that cross my mind regularly. Having a beautiful family with the man I love someday.
Here’s to the start of a beautiful summer weekend!
